Pig & Porter

Pig and Porter was conceived as a small scale brewing and event catering business which evolved from our respective hobbies. We brewed our first beer on New Year’s Eve 2012 and thereafter brewed as often as we could at several microbreweries in Sussex and Kent. In the spring, we began the event catering side of our business for which the beer had originally been intended, and this also took off with bookings every weekend in the summer.

With both sides of our young business showing huge potential we had to make a decision, and when the opportunity arose to take on a former brewery in Tunbridge Wells we knew we had to take it. We’ll still provide an event catering service specialising in high quality barbecued food for selected private events but the beer will be our focus from now on.

Penhurst Pale Ale

(4.5% ABV)
Brewer:

An American Pale Ale, Penhurst Pale Ale features Belgian Aromatic Malt providing a solid base to showcase the hops, which will rotate subject to availability. This brew will feature Centennial, Columbus and Topaz.

The hops are also added at several stages of the boil to lend a balanced bitterness together with a liberal dosage at the end to give a big flavour boost. An American ale yeast allows these flavours to shine through.

Starvation Point Porter

(4.5% ABV)
Brewer:

A dark and brooding porter reminiscent of Victorian times when the style was in its heyday and named after Starvation Point outside Whitstable Harbour where workers lined up in hope of work. If you didn’t work, you didn’t eat. Now the style is popular again and we’ve added a small amount of malt smoked over beechwood which is balanced by the gentle fruitiness of Bramling Cross and Boadicea.
